It may seem like just a couple days have gone by since we posted an article on the fastest commercial drone. But that’s because that’s exactly what happened. In the article, I talked about the briefly touched upon the importance of competition for drone racing as a sport. With that being said, I’m glad I can help shed some light on the Tanky Drone, a Kickstarter project from the minds of Bogdan Ryabyshchuk and Yuki To, with the help of Christopher Rosario.
The Tanky drone popped up on Kickstarter on July 20, priming itself up to be the world’s fastest production drone. An extremely bold claim, the project oozes confidence in their design. It’s approximately 30% lighter than other similarly equipped Ready-To-Fly drones such as the Vortex 250-Pro, which is one of the current fastest RTF drones on the market. Tough carbon fiber with an injection molded composite thermoplastic frame keeps the weight low while providing fantastic durability. It runs the software like CleanFlight that you need, and it is compatible with all currently available FPV goggles and screens. Although it isn’t listed officially on the campaign page, the team claims their Tanky Drone reaches speeds of 100 mph, with 102 being their fastest run.
Currently, the team has the design and prototype finished. After their Kickstarter campaign, they aim to finalize the tooling on the craft, and test the pre-production samples, proceed to mass production, and then ship to the backers by November of 2016. A retail distribution is also a possibility, and the team also has plans to continue working on their product(s) in the coming years. Their project currently sits at ~$23,000 if their $225,000 goal. Take a look at the project. If it’s something you’re interested in, consider helping make it a reality.
