The Drone Sports Association (DSA), the leading global drone racing and drone sports entertainment company, announced today that the 2016 U.S. National Drone Racing Championships “Drone Nationals” will be sponsored by GoPro. GoPro joins a list of prestigious sponsors including EMC of Hopkinton, MA (Headquarters of DroneRacingLife), AIG, and Ernst and Young.
GoPro’s sponsorship is noteworthy as the Company is scheduled to launch their own drone this year. In May the Company announced a delay but committed to a release to meet the 2016 holiday season. Many believe that GoPro with a strong U.S. consumer brand is the most likely to significantly challenge DJI’s dominance and market share.
Earlier this year, it was announce that ESPN has signed an agreement to broadcast the Drone Nationals.
AIG’s participation is also noteworthy as a large insurance company’s recognition of the growing commercial marketplace.
“As one of the first insurers approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate drones for risk assessment and management, AIG is proud to be the official insurance partner for this event,” says Jeremy Johnson, president U.S. commercial insurance at AIG. “Drones have the capability to transform the way industries operate and serve their clients. We’re excited to further support the acceptance and use of this innovative technology.”
The 2016 National Drone Racing Championships Presented by GoPro and the 2016 World Drone Racing Championships in October will be streamed live on ESPN3 and, following each event, will be televised as a one hour special on an ESPN network.
